Wastewater Shortage by 2025

Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters Enters the Wastewater Treatment Plant Construction Sector

According to Fars News Agency, during the inauguration and groundbreaking ceremony of development projects in Pardis, attended by the Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Brigadier General Alireza Fakhari, Deputy Coordinator of Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters, highlighted the urgent need for expanding wastewater treatment infrastructure in Iran.

He stated that while the global average capacity of wastewater treatment facilities is significantly higher, Iran still faces major challenges in wastewater management and treatment capacity.

Fakhari explained that globally, the largest share of treated wastewater is reused in agriculture. In Iran, however, only around 2% of treated wastewater is allocated to industrial applications and approximately 1% is used for municipal services. He warned that without strategic planning in the water sector, Iran is expected to face a serious wastewater shortage by 2025.

He emphasized that water conservation, wastewater recycling, and water reuse must become national priorities. As industrial development accelerates, untreated wastewater alone will no longer be sufficient to meet the country’s growing water demands.

Fakhari further noted that Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters is currently involved in developing wastewater treatment plants across several provinces, including Fars, Khorasan, Hamadan, and Kurdistan, actively participating in infrastructure projects and public tenders aimed at protecting the country’s water resources and expanding wastewater treatment capacity.
