Introduction to Ethylene Oxide Refrigeration System
The Ethylene Oxide Refrigeration system is a critical component in petrochemical industries, designed to control temperature and cool ethylene oxide streams in production and storage processes. Due to ethylene oxide’s high volatility and reactivity, precise and controlled temperature conditions are essential to maintain process safety, stability, and product quality.
These systems utilize advanced refrigeration and compressor technologies to bring ethylene oxide streams to the desired temperature, enabling safe storage and transfer to downstream production units. Operation of the Ethylene Oxide Refrigeration System
The system operates based on a low-pressure, low-temperature refrigeration cycle. Ethylene oxide from process units first enters condensers and heat exchangers to reduce its temperature and convert the vapor portion into liquid. The cooled stream then passes through secondary heat exchangers and additional refrigeration stages until the temperature reaches the required level for storage or process operations.
These systems typically employ screw or centrifugal compressors, air-cooled or water-cooled condensers, and shell-and-tube heat exchangers. Pressure, temperature, and flow rates are continuously monitored using automation and instrumentation systems (PLC & Instrumentation) to ensure stable and safe operation.
